A fairly inexpensive, but very power, 2 cycle glow engine.Manufacturer: SuperTigre Displacement (ci / cc): 1.410 cu. in Exhaust Port: side exhaust Max RPM: 12000 RPM Range: 2000-12000 Length: 4.63" Stroke: 1.1" Bore: 1.2" Weight: 31oz Output (HP): 3.8 BHP Fuel Consumption: Its a pig Recommended Muffler: normally comes with one Recommended Props 16x8, 18x8, 18x10 Fuel Recommendations / Requirements MUST HAVE AT LEAST 18 PERCENT OIL IN THE GLOW MIXTURE! This engine is a very powerful motor for any medium scale aircraft. I flew this motor on my Goldberg Ultimate biplane 55". It is a bit overpowered for even a model of that size. You can go vertical at half throttle!!!! So you can easily put this into a 10-15 pound airplane. The plane that I was flying was probably about 10 pounds when all said and done. In this model, i mounted the engine sidesways so that the exhaust port was facing down. This gave me the advantage of being able to put a pitts style muffler on it so that the exhaust would go under the plane instead of all over it. The motor runs fine this way. I hear that this engine works best when using a pump, although other reviews said that it works worse. I'm using a pump and I haven't had any problems with it thus far. The motor itself is kind of finiky. It wants an ideal setup and then it will run fine. For example, the ideal RPM for this motor is 8100-8500. If you go over that it will generate too much heat. However, at this RPM, it delivers plenty of power. The fuel mixture has to have 18 percent oil, that is just a minimum. Otherwise you will burn up the motor. It also hates the cold. If you fly it in weather below 40 degrees it can be likely to just shut off on you mid flight! DOH! But the power is worth it! Plus if you take the motor apart it is EXTREMELY simple. In about 5 minutes you can have the motor completely taken apart, which makes it trivial to maintain. Here are some notes from the tech department of Tower Hobbies. You may find these useful. The 2300 has been run extensively on many different prop/fuel/plug/muffler combos. The engine provides the most power with the least amount of fuss as follows: Mount engine to permit the tank to absolutely center on the carb AND have the aft end of the tank at approx. 12" aft from the spraybar (or less distance). Use the #F glowplug. And This Is A Must-when selecting any muffler you must restrict the exhaust if necessary, to permit a very broad easily adjusted needle. This requires about 1/2 psi pressure OR about what you get with the stock muffler and one exhaust outlet. Set the needle for full throttle, max power. With the model held straight up-set the idle next with the engine running at about 2000 RPM to give a clean response. Finally set the idle speed. Avoid pumps or regulators. |
